Didier Vila, PhD

From his PhD in mathematics and optimisation to Data Science consulting, leadership and executive roles, Didier has continuously been passionate about innovation, growth and AI that drive financial and organisational impact.

Didier's Background and Experience

With a mathematics background, culminating in a PhD in Optimisation and Operational Research, where he combined strategic and organisational decisions into a unique framework, Didier started his career in technology and Data Science roles in organisations such as Accenture and various financial institutions.

Didier led the Global Data Science practice at QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, where he deepened his expertise in AI and machine learning by applying these technologies to complex business problems, exposing him to cutting-edge applications in a business context. He then grew the Data Science team from a few London-based Data Scientists into a division of more than 200 talented AI specialists worldwide.

Didier joined FTSE250 Telecom Plus PLC as Chief Data and AI Officer. In his role, Didier focused on technologies, data, scaling AI, and GenAI for growth and operational efficiency across the entire organisation. Didier supported many teams in implementing reporting, AI and GenAI from product development, CX, finance, legal and sales to operations. Finally, during Didier's tenure, the customer base, service numbers and turnover increased by 100%.​

The motivation for Alpha Matica stemmed from Didier's experiences at QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, and Telecom Plus, which combined consulting and operational expertise. Recognising the tremendous potential for advanced data analytics and AI has sparked the creation of Alpha Matica to address technological, organisational and financial challenges.

Providing insight and experience at external events

With a passion for AI, technologies and organisations,  Didier has brought his wealth of knowledge and experience to speaking at events and conferences in the UK and abroad.
